HOW LASER
CLEANING WORKS

Our 2000W fiber laser delivers nanosecond pulses of concentrated light that vaporize contaminants at the molecular level — leaving the base material untouched.

01

Surface Assessment

We assess substrate, contaminant type, and geometry to configure optimal power, frequency, and scan parameters.

02

Parameter Calibration

Pulse frequency, scan speed, and output power are dialed in precisely for each specific contaminant and base material combination.

03

Laser Ablation

The fiber beam vaporizes contaminants on contact. The substrate absorbs no energy — it stays dimensionally perfect.

04

Extract & Hand Off

Integrated fume extraction captures all vaporized residue. Surface is inspected and ready for coating or treatment.

How It Works

FIBER LASER
TECHNOLOGY

Laser cleaning uses concentrated infrared light pulses to ablate contaminants at the molecular level — no abrasives, no chemicals, no substrate damage.

2000W CW/Pulsed Fiber Laser System — Mobile Deployment

What is Laser Cleaning?

Laser cleaning is the process of removing unwanted material from a solid surface by irradiating it with a high-intensity laser beam. When the beam hits a contaminated surface, the targeted material absorbs the laser energy and either vaporizes directly into a gas or the rapid thermal expansion causes contaminant particles to “shred away” — leaving the base material untouched.

Why Fiber Laser?

Our 2000W continuous wave (CW) fiber laser delivers light at 1064nm wavelength — the ideal spectrum for absorbing iron oxide, paint, and organic contaminants while reflecting off most metal substrates. The result is selective ablation: only the contamination is removed.

The 7-Step Process

1. Laser sends short pulses of infrared light
2. Contaminant absorbs laser energy
3. Contaminant heats up extremely fast
4. Substrate stays cool beneath
5. Temperature differential vaporizes or shreds contamination
6. Fume extraction captures airborne residue
7. Clean, undamaged surface ready for inspection or coating

Key Benefits

WHY LASER
VS. BLASTING

  • No Abrasive MediaUnlike sandblasting, laser cleaning produces zero secondary waste — contaminants vaporize entirely. No grit to collect, haul, or dispose of.
  • Zero Chemical InputsNo solvents, acids, or biocides. Fully EPA-compliant and marina-safe, making it ideal for environmentally sensitive areas.
  • Substrate ProtectionLaser parameters are tuned to vaporize only the contaminant layer. Base material emerges factory-clean and dimensionally unchanged.
  • In-Situ OperationEquipment cleans components in place — no disassembly, no transport, no drydock required in many applications.
  • Minimal PPE RequiredOperator wears laser safety glasses and mask. No hazmat suits, respiratory equipment, or containment tenting needed.
  • Quiet OperationLaser cleaning is far quieter than sandblasting — normal site conversation is possible during operation.

Common Questions

FREQUENTLY
ASKED
QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know about fiber laser cleaning — how it works, what it costs, and whether it’s right for your project.

Technology
What exactly is fiber laser cleaning?
+
Laser cleaning uses a high-powered beam of concentrated infrared light to ablate contaminants from metal surfaces. The laser energy is absorbed by rust, paint, or organic material, causing it to vaporize instantly. The base metal reflects the energy and remains completely undamaged.
Will the laser damage my base material?
+
No. This is one of the key advantages of laser cleaning. The laser parameters (power, frequency, scan speed) are calibrated specifically for your contaminant and substrate. The base metal absorbs minimal energy and stays dimensionally unchanged. It’s used on aircraft components and precision machined parts for this reason.
What materials and contaminants can be treated?
+
Laser cleaning works on virtually all metals — steel, aluminum, stainless, cast iron, copper alloys. Contaminants removed include rust, corrosion, paint, epoxy coatings, antifouling compounds, weld scale, mill scale, oil, grease, carbon deposits, and marine growth.
How fast does laser cleaning work?
+
Cleaning rates vary by contaminant thickness, material, and power level. Our 2000W system can achieve up to 60 m²/hour on light rust removal, and 10–20 m²/hour on heavy corrosion or multi-layer paint. We can provide a precise estimate after assessing your project.
What surface profile can you achieve?
+
Depending on parameters, we can achieve SSPC SP 1 (solvent clean) through SP 5 (white metal blast) surface cleanliness standards, making cleaned surfaces ready for protective coatings, welding, or inspection.
Practical & Pricing
Do you come to our location?
+
Yes. Blast Laser Cleaning operates as a fully mobile service. Our trailer-mounted, generator-powered system deploys to your site — drydock, job site, facility, or field location. We serve all of Florida and can mobilize nationally for large projects.
How is pricing determined?
+
Pricing is based on surface area, contaminant type and thickness, accessibility, and location. We offer per-square-foot project quotes, daily rate contracts, and long-term service agreements for recurring maintenance clients. Contact us for a free assessment and quote.
Is laser cleaning safe for the environment?
+
Yes — it’s one of the most environmentally responsible surface preparation methods available. There are no chemicals, no solvents, no abrasive grit, and no water discharge. Vaporized contaminants are captured by integrated fume extraction. It’s safe for use near marinas, waterways, and sensitive ecosystems.
What safety precautions are required on site?
+
The operator wears laser safety glasses rated for 1064nm and a dust mask. A designated laser safety zone with appropriate signage is established around the work area. Bystanders within the zone also wear protective eyewear. Requirements are minimal compared to sandblasting or chemical stripping operations.
Can laser cleaning be used in confined spaces?
+
Yes. The laser head is connected to the system via a flexible fiber optic cable, allowing the cleaning head to access tanks, bilges, confined machinery spaces, and complex geometries that would be impractical to sandblast or chemically treat.
